Lord Lonsdale is selling Blencathra in England – which has been owned by his family for 400 years – to help pay off an inheritance tax bill. Hugh Lowther, the 8th Earl of Lonsdale, is also auctioning the title Lord of the Manor of Threlkeld, through H&H Land and Property. All it costs is a paltry £1.75m (about $3 million US dollars).

The buyer will be entitled to use the title Lord of the Manor of Threlkeld and can apply to the College of Arms for an individual Coat of Arms.

Details are given at http://www.blencathra.info. Final offers must be received by noon on Wednesday, July 2.

I can certainly recommend Blencathra or saddleback as a great place to walk (probably my favorite mountain in the Lake District) and whoever buys it will share it with the thousands of visitors
