By the time you read these words, I should be en route to Burbank, California to attend the 45th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree and a separate, one-day conference: Family History and DNA: Genetic Genealogy in 2014. These events are both held in the same conferences center on June 5-8. The DNA conference is organized by the International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG) while the Genealogy Jamboree is organized by the Southern California Genealogical Society.
This year’s Jamboree theme is Golden Memories: Discovering Your Family History. The focus is on European ancestors. Class sessions are scheduled for German, Irish, English/UK, Scotland, Eastern Europe, Italian, Mennonite, Swedish, and Russian, as well as African American and Jewish classes.
The DNA conference on Thursday, June 5, is dedicated to learning about family history through DNA. The DNA keynote speaker Dr. Maurice Gleeson is a psychiatrist and pharmaceutical physician. He is also a professional actor and has appeared on the West End stage in London. Maurice is co-administrator of the Ireland mitochondrial DNA project.
The two conferences offer speakers, exhibitors, class sessions and special events, and will be held at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel at 2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank, California. I will also be offering three presentations while at the Jamboree.
You can learn more about these two back-to-back conferences at http://www.genealogyjamboree.com.
If you are able to attend either or both of these conferences, I am sure you will enjoy the experience. If you see me, please stop and say “Hello” as I love meeting newsletter readers. I will be wandering the exhibits hall often and hopefully will attend several of the presentations. However, when not busy elsewhere, I hope to spend a lot of time with the MyHeritage team in booth #308. Please stop by. You also might want to chat with the MyHeritage team members, make sure you bring your GEDCOM file to the booth and plan to find your relatives in minutes with a free “Smart Match” check.
See you at the Jamboree!
Insert standard disclaimer here: While I will be traveling with an assortment of computers, tablets, and cell phones, along with wireless devices, I may not be able to post as many articles as normal for the next few days. The problem isn’t hardware but is time available. I tend to be very busy when attending genealogy conferences!
Sunday evening’s mailing of the Plus Edition newsletter may also be delayed as I expect to be taking a red-eye flight back to the East Coast at that time. The email delivery will probably happen on Monday.
