University of New Hampshire adds Four Sets of Digitized Historic Maps Online

The University of New Hampshire has placed four new sets of digital historic maps online. Those looking for New Hampshire locations may wish to check out these maps and gazetteer. Three of the new additions are for New Hampshire only:

  • Hurd Town and City Atlas of New Hampshire, originally published in 1892
  • Atlas Accompanying the Hitchcock Geology of New Hampshire, originally published in 1878
  • Gazetteer of the state of New-Hampshire, originally published in 1817

The fourth covers all of New England: Historic USGS Maps of New England. The online collection of 1100 USGS topographic maps includes complete coverage of New England from the 1890s to 1950s.

You can access all the maps by starting at http://www.library.unh.edu/digital/maps-atlases. While at that page, you might also want to look at the many other historic maps and other documents already available online at the University’s web site.

My thanks to newsletter reader Scott Tilden for telling me about these new resources.
