If the earlier article convinced you to switch from Microsoft Internet Explorer to a safer, less invasion-prone Web browser, you may be wondering, “But what about all those favorite Web sites I have bookmarked in Internet Explorer? Will I lose all my favorite links and be forced to spend hours recreating them?”

About discontinuing the use of IE, some webpages will not function using Opera or other browsers. I recently downloaded Opera and like it but the radio station I enjoy online does not function; a forum I like, does not permit me to use formatting with Opera; Google Mail does not function. I realize that Active X is part of the problem with IE but webpages that do employ Active X are not always accessible with other browsers.
I sent an email to chain cast and told them I was switching (and am waiting to hear back) and asked how I go about getting a plug-in that would work with Opera? I don't know if Opera will support other plug-ins.
Do you have a workaround this problem if you switch browsers?

The topic about using browsers other than IE and the suggestion that IE may be permanently deleted requires one small but important comment: you can't use Windows Update WITHOUT IE installed.
This is the message Mozilla produced when I used the update URL as a test:
[QUOTE]
Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the most out of your computer.
You need to be running a version of Internet Explorer 5 or higher in order to use Windows Update. [END QUOTE]
The same result would be found using Opera, Firefox, etc.
Users of Windows would be left "in the wilderness" if they completely removed IE. Use another browser by all means BUT leave IE intact - you need it!

The first two clicks on your "Web page" links (on left-hand side of EOGN blog) resulted in broken links. Specifically:
http://eogn.com/cgi-sys/BROWNS%20GENERATIONS
http://eogn.com/cgi-sys/www.ahnen.stefanvillwock.de
You might want to sick your "watch dog" on this feature. I did not go thru the whole list, but the next few links to web pages seemed to be OK. Thanks. I trust the EOGN with the latest and greatest news in genealogy. -Bob
