Note: I am employed by the New England Historic Genealogical Society and have some responsibilities for the Web site mentioned here. Many of us at the Society are proud that our Web site was named one of the "Best Web Sites."
The following is an announcement from the New England Historic Genealogical Society:
NewEnglandAncestors.org named one of the "Best Web Sites" by Family Tree magazineBoston, MA, June 28, 2004 - For the fourth year in a row, Family Tree magazine has rated NewEnglandAncestors.org as one of the 101 Best Web Sites for searching your family tree.
NewEnglandAncestors.org is the website of the New England Historic Genealogical Society. Based in Boston, the non-profit organization was founded in 1845 and is the oldest and largest genealogical society in the country. Although NEHGS' reputation for excellence has been recognized for decades, its website is relatively new and continues to gain new fans every day.
"No other region enjoys a resource quite like this"
Growing fast and adding new searchable databases almost daily helps to keep NewEnglandAncestors.org competitive with other top family history websites. The editors at Family Tree magazine recommend: "No other region enjoys a resource quite like this, so if you have New England kin, consider investing $75 for a Research Membership, which includes access to the...online databases - nearly 80 million names in records ranging from court documents to diaries and journals to vital records."By continuously putting sought-after genealogical records on the internet, NEHGS demonstrates its commitment to online research. One of NEHGS' most recent - and most popular - endeavors has been the Massachusetts Vital Records digitization project. Launched in April, the Massachusetts Vital Records (1841-1910) database is already one of the most frequently used resources on the website. A portal to NEHGS' entire array of goods and services, NewEnglandAncestors.org also offers research articles, a bookstore, and online library catalog. NEHGS' publications, the New England Historical and Genealogical Register (published continuously since 1847) and New England Ancestors magazine, are also searchable online.
While widely praised in its current form, NewEnglandAncestors.org will undergo a facelift at the end of the summer to make it even more user-friendly! Look for improved database searches and navigation tools this fall.
