The U.S. National Genealogical Society has announced a regional conference, entitled "Warm Up Your Research," will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, on January 20 through 22, 2005. Plans are not yet complete, but the NGS Web site states, "Thursday's one-day workshops will polish up your genealogical software skills, your professional skills and your general genealogical knowledge. Topics on website design, scanning, writing, and a BCG Education Fund workshop: 'How to Communicate With Yourself and Others.' Banquet and luncheons. Speakers include Elizabeth Shown Mills, CG, CGL, FNGS, FASG; Tom Jones, CG, CGL; J. Mark Lowe, CG; and Cyndi Howells. "
Next January's conference is to be held at the Wyndham Downtown Phoenix Hotel, located at 50 East Adams Street. This hotel recently went through a name change; it was previously known at the Crowne Plaza.
It is interesting to note that this conference occurs almost exactly two years after NGS canceled a schedule GENTECH conference in Phoenix in January, 2003. That cancellation turned out to be sticky, including a lawsuit by the Crowne Plaza hotel over guaranteed room reservations. This new conference appears to be the results of negotiations with the hotel owners: scheduling a new conference and reserving a block of rooms in January, 2005.
