Leland Meitzler, the owner of Heritage Creations, publishes a very popular web log (blog) called GenealogyBlog.com. That site has been offline for several days. Apparently Leland is home recovering from some minor surgery that is keeping him away from the keyboard.
During this time the site crashed or was taken offline for some reason. Leland expects to be back in full operation in about a week. In the meantime, his tech department is working on the problem as well.
I suspect that GenealogyBlog.com will be back online soon.
FYI only--recd the following this morning re outage:
Genealogy Blog was hit pretty hard by spammers over the weekend and our host took the site down. We are getting a new web host and will have the blog up again in a day or two. I'll let you know when we're back up.
Thanks for writing, Joe Edmon

I see that the Genealogy Blog is back online at http://www.genealogyblog.com. Not everything is in place yet but obviously they are working on it.

Leland here... Despite having the mother of all sore throats following surgery to attempt to put an end to my worsening sleep apnea, I really think I just might survive.
Yes, the site went down for a few days. Joe has scrambled and gotten it moved to another host where we can't be knocked offline if we get spammed again. It's still not fully functional, in that Word-Press came out with a new version of the software over the weekend also, and we're upgrading to it.
We had similar spamming experieces in the past with out email. Spam suddenly uses up all available bandwidth and the host gets excited. Joe is working at getting all the email moved over to a better situation this weekend also. I find it interesting that some web hosts seem to have pretty bad manners - and get away with it. If their client gets spammed, they just pull the site and put up a generic and very nasty notice - making it look to all the world like their client just did something terrible. Oh, well. This is what I get for using the "competitive" priced hosting services. Never again. I'll just pay may money and sleep better at night!
