In the February 04, 2005 daily edition of this newsletter, I reported that the popular Irish genealogy web site, OtherDays.com, had apparently gone offline. What's more, nobody was answering the phone at the company headquarters, and even the FAX machine was not answering. A few e-mails have floated around in the following two+ weeks, saying that the outage was temporary as the company was having some problems.
Indeed, the web site is now back online. I am not sure if everything is 100% operational or not, but the four or five things that I tried seem to work perfectly.
You can see for yourself at http://www.otherdays.com.
That's great news but unfortunately those of us with NEHGS member access are still unable to search the site. Any idea when the link to Otherdays.com on the NEHGS site will be restored?

Soon. Apparently there are a number of things that do not work yet on OtherDays.com but the company obviously is rebuilding everything. I suspect that the entire site will be back to normal within a few days.

Thanks for keeping everyone updated about Otherdays.com. I just tried to log in without success. All the e-mails I have sent are unanswered.

I have my own paid account with OtherDays, and still can't log on.

Have also been trying to Log-on, without success, since the site went back up. Supposedly my username and password are incorrect, but that is not the case.
I too have e-mailed on a daily basis,and tried phoning,to no avail.
I can understand there might still be technical problems to resolve, but they must have a subscriber's list, as they send out a regular newsletter. They should by now have e-mailed all of us with an update and an apology. This is really poor customer service.
I think the site, when working normally,is excellent, and very good value.
I miss it! I need a Griffiths' fix!

Anyone have any luck with otherdays
I think their treatment of their customers is diabolical
Posted by: bill | March 03, 2005 at 09:49 AM
I agree with Bill. Customers should not be treated like this and it will guarantee that the site will gradually wither away due to a dwindling customer base. I, for one, will not do business with them again!

Dick, have you heard anything from Otherdays.com?
I noticed the link on the NEHGS page is still missing. I am just wondering if and when this resource will be available.

I have called the company several times but have not been able to reach a human. NEHGS will not put the link back onto the web site until that link is working properly again. (Keep in mind that I work at NEHGS also.)
Thanks.

I have read all the archived comments re otherdays.com. I am a member of NEHGS, and although I note that otherdays.com's technical problems were resolved and it went back on line long ago, I have never again seen the link on the NEHGS site. Can you tell me if NEHGS members are still provided with access?

Hi Patricia. Actually, I cannot tell you that. I am no longer employed at the New England Historic Genealogical Society and I don't know what they are up to these days. All I can suggest is that you contact the Society directly and ask.
