Regina Hines Ellison, renowned for her columns on Gulf Coast genealogy, has died of ovarian cancer at age 67. In 1968 Regina Ellison began to share food for thought with readers through her news stories and genealogy column, "Branches & Twigs." She joined The Mississippi Press in 1987 and became city editor in 1998. Though she retired from these full-time duties three years ago, she continued to pen two weekly columns, "Branches & Twigs" and "Around Ocean Springs," under the name Regina Hines, and introduced real-life characters to her readers.
A board certified genealogist, Ms. Ellison was cited by The Mississippi Historical Society with an award of merit for her historical and genealogical writings. In 1991, the Ocean Springs Historic Preservation Commission named her Historian of the Year.
