The DoroTree software program is the creation of Jewish genealogists who were searching for a solution to their unique needs. This Windows program offers features not found in mainstream genealogy programs, including:
- Commemoration of the Holocaust
- Date conversion
- Bi-lingual reports
- Jewish Lineage entry
- Optional Hebrew data entry
- Yahrzeit Reports
- Hebrew-Gregorian date conversion.
- Special Holocaust commemoration features
- Direct Internet access to Jewish genealogy sites
- Imports and export genealogy files in the standard GEDCOM format
I have not yet had a chance to use DoroTree, but the program's web site makes it look promising. DoroTree claims to have an easy-to-navigate interface, complete bi-lingual capability, and customizable graphic reports with pictures. It also allows the researcher to create family web pages that can be uploaded to a personal web site.
DoroTree operates simultaneously in two character sets: Latin characters (English, French, German, Spanish or Portuguese) on the left and Hebrew on the right. (You can type in and display Hebrew characters without a Hebrew operating system. A virtual Hebrew keyboard is supplied with the program.)
The program also has a first name translator. If you know that your grandfather's Hebrew name was Moses or Moshe, just right click his name, and the program will instantly translate that name into Hebrew, using Hebrew characters.
DoroTree also features unlimited multimedia storage. It reportedly works with Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000, and XP. The program's web site has screen shots showing DoroTree in operation.
DoroTree Version 2.1 sells for $59.00 (U.S. funds) plus shipping and handling. You can learn more about DoroTree and even order it online via a safe and secure shopping cart system at http://www.dorotree.com.
