The ongoing land grab for mineral rights to White County, Arkansas land has caused a struggle over record books in the county courthouse. White County Clerk Tanya Burleson said the landmen who have holed up in the county's record vaults in recent months are destroying century-old White County tax and probate records as they research land ownership.
"I've seen people standing on the books, using them as ladders," Burleson said. "It wouldn't be so bad if they showed a little respect. My books are being destroyed."
In her letter Burleson writes that crowds of landmen in the record vault interferes with county government work and genealogical researchers who might stop off in Searcy on vacation.
You can read more about this on the Daily Citizen web site.
Wow! For once it isn't the genealogists that are being blamed for causing problems in the courthouse! And this guy is even DEFENDING the use of genealogists!

Sometimes people seem to forget that yes - we are in the US but each state and even each county has a different way of doing things than other areas and be respectful of that. And a handful of people who don't respect ruin opportunities for the respectful ones!
