The LDS Family History Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho is going to be closed until January 2nd after a fire caused extensive smoke damage. None of the 12,000 books of genealogical records maintained by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the center were destroyed, although the center's director Larry Killian says the smoke has created a cleanup and restoration job that is too big for his staff.
The fire was small and apparently had extinguished itself by the time it was discovered. However, smoke damage was extensive. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
