(+) Going Wireless at the Family History Library
Every year, thousands of genealogists make "the pilgrimage" to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. The immense resources of this one library are difficult to describe. (See http://www.familysearch.org for many pages of description.) This library contains by far the largest collection of genealogy information ever assembled under one roof anywhere in the world.
Many genealogists take their laptop computers with them when visiting the Family History Library. Indeed, it is a time-saver to have all your genealogy data with you in a compact package that weighs six pounds or less. Touch typists will even enter data into the computer while seated in front of a microfilm reader.
Being seated in the Family History Library does not mean that you have to be isolated from the outside world, although that may seem desirable at times. In fact, you can sit in front of a microfilm viewer with your laptop computer to one side and check your e-mail or surf the web, looking for even more genealogy data to corroborate what you have just found on microfilm. If truth be told, I wrote this article and sent it to my editor via e-mail while seated in front of a microfilm viewer in the library.
