So you stretched the piggy bank to the max and purchased a fancy new computer, right? Now you want some software to take advantage of the new capabilities. Of course, the piggy bank is empty. Not to worry; there is a lot of high-quality free software available. Some of it is as good as the commercial programs, and a few of the free programs are even arguably better than some of their commercial cousins.
This week I thought I would describe the best free genealogy programs, genealogy utilities, Web browsers, e-mail programs, anti-virus programs, word processors, spreadsheet programs, graphics editors, RSS newsreaders, etc. available today. I have used every one of these programs myself. Some of them I use repeatedly, even occasionally replacing some commercial products that I had previously paid for.
