The Federation of Genealogical Societies has announced that its 2008 annual conference will be held in Philadelphia with James Beidler in charge. I had a chance to talk with him at length about the project. Preliminary plans are just being formed right now and nothing is ready for announcement. However, it is clear that Jim and the others are not limiting their thoughts to "traditional ideas."
The 2008 FGS conference will be held in a state-of-the-art conference center that offers many opportunities for Internet connectivity, video conferencing and more. It should be interesting to see the plans once they are announced.
It seems strange to be sitting at one major genealogy conference and to be talking about a conference to be held two years from now but obviously these people are thinking.
The 2007 conference of the Federation of Genealogical Societies will be held next August in Fort Wayne, Indiana and I suspect you'll find some interesting new concepts there too.
I hope to write more about this as the dates approach. You might also occasionally check the FGS web site at http://www.fgs.org for more information.
