The Alexandria Public Library is looking for a Manager of Local History/Special Collections. The person to be hired will be a member of the library's senior level management team.
The job posting states in part, "Major activities include generating online exhibits, collection guides and genealogy indexes. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations and supervision of the staff of the Local History/Special Collections Division. Additional responsibilities include selectively acquiring resources for the collection, utilizing print and electronic technologies to facilitate and improve access to the collection, and assure the conservation and preservation of particularly rare paper-based material.
"A master's degree in Library Science from an accredited ALA library program is required and a minimum of one year's experience at the Librarian II level, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience with web site development a plus. Additional Requirements: Applicant must possess or obtain a license to practice as a registered professional librarian issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia."
