It was a great idea. In fact, it was a popular idea. Too popular. High demand for free genealogy information has caused a website to crash and temporarily suspend its free offer.
Origins Network was offering free access to its database for 24 hours to celebrate US Labor Day. However Origins Network has needed to suspend its free offer due to heavy demand, but said it may reopen free access later today.
The website has a huge database with information on British and Irish Origins dating as far back as 1267 (on British Origins) and up to 1915 (Irish Origins).
A note on the web site earlier today said, "Due to an unexpectedly high demand for our Free Access offer, we are temporarily unable to allow any new free registrations. We hope to allow free registrations later in the day so please check back." However, the site appears to be back online when I checked a moment ago.
The free access is due to run until 8 am on 5 September at http://www.originsnetwork.com
