From now until January 1, the LostCousins web site is completely free for all registered members. Of course, registration is also free.
LostCousins claims to be the only family history site able to match you with others researching the same ancestors. It claims to do so in confidence. You simply enter your ancestors and other relatives from the 1881 Census of England, Wales, Scotland, or Canada; then click the Search button. Obviously, this does not work for ancestors in other countries.
Details may be found at http://www.lostcousins.com

Hi, I am looking for information for Eugene Buckingham b6 December 1864 in East Texas. He married Mary Ella Bell b 24 October 1871. I know nothing about his parents. It is believed that his father had come from England. When the mother died he either died going into town and was never found or returned alone to England.
I do know that Eugene had a twin sister named Mary Fanny. There may have been a sibling named George also. Other then that I know nothing more about Eugene.
My e-mail is darlene.poppe@adelphia.net. Appreciate any help,
Thanks so much,
Darlene Poppe

Aw shucks! I didn't read this carefully enough. After registering, I discovered that you have to have an 1881 UK Census ancestor already identified in order to participate.
I don't even have one to look for as all my ancestors and all my husband's have been in the US since before 1855. What I need is to find some free websites in England, Scotland,Ireland and Germany for early days. I am still busy using Ancestry in the US so won't expand subscription to UK until I finish.
