Yes, that's what the tombstone says. Actually, it seems to be an abbreviation. The tombstone pictured at http://www.waterlooogs.ca/halfdied.jpg says:
H.A.L.F.
Died
August 5th
1907

The more you look at grave stones, the more interesting messages like this you find. In Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia, there used to be a marker for Confederate soldier S. S. Avara of Mississippi that was incorrectly inscribed and spelled "S. L. Avery" -- or "SLAvery".
Unfortunately, that stone was replaced by one of the new stones. The people who replaced it show his name as S. S. Avery, which is still wrong. It is one more example of the havoc people can wreak for researchers when they replace stones without doing any research.
