You may have read the recent announcement from the U.S. National Genealogical Society about a change in newsletter editors. Liz Kerstens has done a great job in recent years but has new opportunities that she wishes to pursue. All I can say to Liz is, "You did a great job!"
I was delighted to learn that Pam Cerutti has been named NGS Newsletter Editor. In the NGS announcement, there was a statement, "Pam Cerutti is the editor of another well-known electronic newsletter and previous editor of an award winning family newsletter." I'll spill the beans: Pam has been editor of Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter for more than eleven years.
Pam has been a long-time friend and confidant. More than eleven years ago, I casually told her that I was thinking of launching an electronic genealogy newsletter to be sent to a few of my friends. Pam's first comment was, "You need an editor." I didn't know how right she was!
Indeed, Pam edited the very first edition of Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and nearly every one since. (She did miss two or three issues due to both of us having hectic travel schedules, and I will quickly admit that those issues were less professional than the others.) Pam has edited articles when we were both traveling, and we have often passed articles back and forth in e-mail. I remember being in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, a few years ago, sending articles to Pam, who was in California, and then receiving the edited versions back within a couple of hours. (We both live in Massachusetts.)
Much of what this newsletter has become is due to Pam's efforts, advice, and guidance. She has converted my ramblings into readable text and also has often offered suggestions for new articles.
Note to Pam: Please do not edit out the previous paragraph.
I suspect that Pam is the most experienced genealogy e-newsletter editor in the world, having edited thousands of genealogy-related articles.
By the way, she's not leaving. Pam is taking on editorship of the NGS newsletter as an additional project but will remain as editor of EOGN.
Pam Cerutti is also an award-winning family newsletter editor. Some years ago Pam assumed the editorship of the Morse Society's newsletter for Morse, Mors, Morss, and Moss descendants. The following year, Pam and that newsletter won first place in the NGS annual competition for best family association newsletter.
You can read more about Pam's award at http://eogn.typepad.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2004/06/newsletter_edit.html. You can also see a picture of her at the same place. Please join me in offering congratulations to Pam on her new appointment as editor of the National Genealogical Society's UpFront newsletter.
