Looking for MACKLINs who immigrated to north America [Canada or the US] from northern Ireland. Name was derived from MacLaughlin and before that MacLochlainn {Sept].
Y-DNA tests [25 loci] confirm that we are Celts who had migrated from the Loire [Liger] Valley in Gaul across the Irish Sea to Eire during the Hallstat period. Family was orginially from the east side of the Enishowen Pensinsula and the "Loch" Foyle River valley [Donegal/Tyrone].
Post 1241 the family was centered in the valley and gradually moved east and south through Co Down and down into Leinster and Dublin. Today the name remains primarily in Co Down from Belfast to Banbridge.
In 1598 the name assumed its final form, that of MACKLIN [for economic, political and religious reasons].
First MACKLINs arrived in NA in 1700's to the Virginia and Massechusetts settlements; in the early 1800's they arrived in the Canadas and settled in Upper Canada [Ontario - Cobourg to London].
As we are a relatively small family grouping, I am looking for MACKLINs who wish to continue the Y-DNA trail back into the mists of recorded time. Thank you.
