If you are planning on traveling to Maine to do genealogy research this summer, you will want to be aware of construction at the Maine Historical Society Research Library in Portland. The following was written by the Maine Historical Society:
Maine Historical Society Research Library Renovation News
This summer MHS will begin the centennial renovation and expansion of its Research Library which was built in 1907. This is an exciting and necessary project and will lead to better care for our collections and a better research experience for all of our users.
We are taking every step possible to minimize the disruption that the renovation will cause for MHS members and others who rely on the material in our library collection. Many institutions close during renovations of this magnitude; we have committed ourselves to providing full library services and access to our collections at a temporary location (510 Congress Street) just a block away from the Research Library. Other than temporary closures to move the collections, outlined below, operations and access will continue as normal. For more information, go to http://www.mainehistory.org/library_renovation.shtml.
