St. Louis Genealogical Society Website Surpasses 500,000 Names
The following announcement was written by the St. Louis Genealogical Society:
The St. Louis Genealogical Society (StLGS) is proud to announce that its website at http://www.stlgs.org now contains more than half a million names. Over 100 dedicated volunteers have spent tens of thousands of hours entering and proofreading data on past St. Louis area residents. Completely redesigned and released in January 2006 after a year of research and development, and “tweaked” again in January 2007, the StLGS website now encompasses more than 800 web pages with surname data, in about 120 separate data sets, plus three separate databases. Search for your ancestors today.
StLGS views the quality and content of meaningful information on its website as a key element of its mission, part of which reads, "...collecting, preserving, and publishing genealogical and historical records." To that end, the Society is devoting the great majority of its most valuable assets -- volunteer skills and time -- to the ongoing work of collecting more and more data about past St. Louisans.
In future years, the website will become perhaps the Society's most important resource for genealogists seeking St. Louis area ancestors. Achieving half a million personal names is a key landmark on that journey.

At this time, the only names restricted are those in the marriage database. That database is also available on Ancestry, but there is more detail on the Society site. As to membership, the Society has announced that individual membership will move to $35 and family membership to $40 on 1 May - although those attending the Annual Fair on 5 May will still be offered the existing rates.
