An Interview with Josh Hanna
The folks at RootsTelevision have been busy. They have now released another interview recorded at the recent National History Show in London. In this video, I had a chance to talk with Josh Hanna, Managing Director for European Operations for Ancestry.com, Ancestry.co.uk, and the other genealogy sites owned by The Generations Network.
Ancestry.co.uk was a major sponsor of the show and and had a very large presence there. You can see part of the Ancestry booth in the background behind us. In addition, the company had a separate stage and produced shows and talks almost continuously for three days.
In this interview, Josh talks about Ancestry's presence at the show and about the U.K. records available online at www.ancestry.co.uk.

Hint: If you are on a dial-up Internet connection, you may encounter "jerkiness" as the video downloads and tries to play. If so, simply click on PAUSE. You will then see the video continue to download in the background, and it will be stored temporarily on your hard drive. Then click PLAY once again, and it should be much smoother as the video is retrieved from your hard drive at full speed.
By the way, you might check to see if Josh is suffering from jet lag. When we talked, he had arrived in London from from Salt Lake City the previous evening. About two hours after this interview, he left for Sydney, Australia!
If you have not seen Roots Television lately, I would suggest that you go to http://www.RootsTelevision.com and see what else is available on this growing resource. The owners of the site have been adding a lot of content and it is now becoming both an entertaining and educational site for genealogists in many countries. I think you will be very impressed with the many offerings available at http://www.RootsTelevision.com.

Well, Roots Television is not the same as being there, but short of that it's good enough. I enjoyed talking with you, Dick, and the other presenters, on the Wholly Genes Cruise last fall. It would be nice if Roots Television would cover the cruise events this year. It would certainly promote the events.
By the way, I also reviewed last year's cruise. My candid comments are on my website: http://www.ShoeStringGenealogy.com/ssg1.htm, which of course is FREE. Look for it in the Reviews.

Such a pity that you didn't visit and interview many of the family history society stands that attended this fair. These, and the smaller commercial firms provide the backbone of researching a family tree, but apparently didn't warrant a mention.

I did interview the senior executives of both the Society of Genealogists and the Federation of Family History Societies as well as one of the long-time senior members of the Yorkshire Family History Society. Two of those interviews will be released in the near future, the third is already available.
We recorded several hours of interviews. I am not sure how worthwhile it would be to record even more or even if that would have been possible with the five-person crew we had. We stayed rather busy all three days! (smile) Perhaps if we had two or three camera crews...

Where in the world is SIDNEY, Australia? The many times I visited it was named SYDNEY. Shame on you.
