The following announcement of the passing of Jack Brissee was posted on the APG Listserve this morning.
At the request of Jack’s family, it is my sad duty to inform the list of the death of John A “Jack” Brissee, past president of the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society, current director of the National Genealogical Society, a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, and sometime attendee of the Institute at Samford.
All three of his children were present with him when he died about dawn this morning. Funeral arrangements are pending; services will likely be held at Luther Memorial Church, Madison, Wisconsin.
The family has not yet indicated their wishes on memorial tributes. As we have them, we will post them.
I had the rare privilege of spending time with the family on Sunday, in a pastoral capacity, as well as that of “genealogy buddy.” In his own words, Jack was ready for his next journey.
We will miss him very much.
The Rev. David McDonald CG
Editor, Wisconsin State Genealogical Society Newsletter
Oh, my! Jack was a dynamic force for genealogy and for we genealogists who had the good fortune to work with him. A concise synopsis of his achievements can be seen at the NGS site: http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/aboard.cfm
We will all miss you, Jack. And, BTW, let our brick-wall ancesters there know we're still tracking them down.
