Jacqueline Depelle - The Hat Lady
You HAVE to see this lady's hat. This is another interview from the recent National History Show in London. Jacqueline certainly had the most interesting hat at the show. She carries her genealogy on her hat.
You can see this video by clicking on the link below:
To view the video, click on the above image. If that does not work for you, you can also view it by going to http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid464120989/bclid240119644/bctid931731244.
Hint: If you are on a dial-up Internet connection, you may encounter "jerkiness" as the video downloads and tries to play. If so, simply click on PAUSE. You will then see the video continue to download in the background, and it will be stored temporarily on your hard drive. Then click PLAY once again, and it should be much smoother as the video is retrieved from your hard drive at full speed.
If you have not seen Roots Television lately, I would suggest that you go to http://www.RootsTelevision.com and see what else is available on this growing resource. The owners of the site have been adding a lot of content and it is now becoming both an entertaining and educational site for genealogists in many countries. I think you will be very impressed with the many offerings available at http://www.RootsTelevision.com.
Well done Jackie, good to see you on TV,
from one ofyour family history students!

These videos seem to be being "squished" when viewed on Mac OS X - the image area is 480 x 270 pixels- 16:9 - but they seem stretched - ie wide "fat" faces?

Congratulations, Jacqueline Depelle, for finding such a great way to make family history 'approachable' and fun! I think your classes must be great.
Jacqueline may see some other versions of her hat showing up around the world soon. Our British Columbia Genealogical Society marches in the St. Patrick's Day parade every year in Vancouver. I'm thinking about a Canadian family tree hat already! (I'll make sure it has a proper credit to Jacqueline somewhere on it.)
And, thanks very much, Dick, and Roots Television, for bringing us all the news from the London show.

Roger, the aspect ratio is correct on my 17" Mac Powerbook, OS X 10.4.9. I am using Firefox browser. However there are several rather large people who appear in the background that give the visual effect of short & wide.

Here's what I see on the Paul Blake interview page..
http://LisaAndRoger.com/squished.jpg
that image is 480 pixels wide and little over 200 tall. Compare Dick's image in the interview with his image in the side column.
Something is amiss me thinks.

Thanks very much to those who are offering technical feedback on the Roots Television site. We are working through the aspect ratio issues and experimenting with various encoding formulas. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience with the occasional "squished" images and other hiccups in our system! We are always happy to receive viewer comments at info@rootstelevision.com, and we really do pay attention to the feedback, even if we don't answer everything directly. And thanks to Dick Eastman for being such a terrific host at the London show. Hats off to the Hat Lady and all who so graciously agreed to be interviewed there. Hopefully next year we will be able to cover even more! Cheers!
