The following is an announcement from the Southern California Genealogical Society:
The Southern California Genealogical Society announces a new service to help
families connect with their cousins from around the world. The SCGS Virtual
Surname Wall will be unveiled at the 38th Annual Southern California
Genealogy Jamboree, June 8-10 in Burbank, CA.
"The Surname Wall, complete with index cards and Post-It notes, has been a
tradition at Jamborees of the past," said Paula Hinkel, society president.
"This new digital format will expand the service far beyond the walls of the
Convention Center."We invite you to write your surnames on our Virtual Surname Wall. We all
talk about how our brick walls get in our way. This is one Wall that could
help for a change," Hinkel continued. There is no charge for this service, and the offer is open to the public.
Entries submitted by May 22 will be included in the 2007 Virtual Surname
Wall at Jamboree. Later submissions will be included in a free-access
online database that will be available on the SCGS website this summer.Complete details are listed under "Breaking News" at www.scgsgenealogy.com.
Yet ANOTHER collaborative effort. It is so good to be alive in these genealogical times. The Surname Wall is a brilliant idea taken from the earlier efforts of BBS and Msg Boards.
I like the "Breaking News" about such a Wall, too. Ironic.

I have just entered 9 surnames into the Surname Wall database. They all started in different parts of the world but ended up in California. I'm looking forward to meeting many new cousins as a result.

My Morde's come from Sweden. Ancestor is Lars Peter Morde who was a soldier and was born in Trameno parish in 1824. He had a son named Johan Morde who came to America. Johan had a daughter named Emma who married Paul Greer. I believe there are some descendents of Johan with the surname of Greer who live in Southern California but I can't find them. My ancestor is Lars Peter's son Carl Edward Morde.
