The folks at Footnote.com have been holding members' meetings at various conventions and conferences around the country. Now they will hold one at the ALA Annual Conference in Washington D.C. on Saturday, June 23. If you are a Footnote.com user and are attending the ALA Conference or perhaps you live in the Washington D.C. area, you are invited to attend.
Here is the announcement from Footnote.com:
We will be holding a meeting of Footnote.com members at the 2007 ALA Annual Conference in Washington D.C. on Saturday, June 23, 2007. Footnote members who live in the Washington D.C. area or who will be attending the 2007 ALA Annual Conference, are welcome to attend. We will discuss future plans, solicit member opinions and give out door prizes. Anyone who is interested may attend. Seating will be limited. If interested please contact Elizabeth at eliz@footnote.com.
NOTE: I have attended one of the past events and can tell you that it was quite beneficial for both the members and the company executives who attended.
Wonder why they didn't send this to all their subscribers? Glad I get your newsletter so I learned about it and hopefully will be able to attend - depends on time and where in DC.

You asked, "Wonder why they didn't send this to all their subscribers?" I think you can find the answer in Footnote.coms Privacy policy. Go to their web site and click on Privacy policy (it is a link near the bottom of the page). You will find the following statement:
"We respect your privacy and your time, so we will only send you emails that we believe will be pertinent and interesting to you, and only if you have expressly agreed to receive such emails."
Unlike some other companies, Footnote.com's executives have pledged to not flood their customers with e-mail messages.

I have read with great interest your entries re: Footnote, but have never been able to access their site. The error message is always: "program is not responding". Is there another link that might be more successful?

What link are you using? I just tried all the links to Footnote.com on this site that I could find and they all worked. Can you tell me what address you are trying to reach?

The American Library Association Conference in DC will have between 27,000 and 30,000 attendees. Many meetings will be in the Washington Convention Center, but with about 3,000 meetings Thursday, June 21st through Tuesday, June 26th, the surrounding hotels (15 to 20 of them) will also have meetings. The meeting schedule is generally 7AM to 10PM, divided into 8 or so 2 hour blocks. The exhibits run Friday through Tuesday from 9 AM to 5 PM, except Tuesday to 2 PM.
I wish Footnote had at least given a time for Saturday. The busiest day of the Conference.
This will be my 22nd Annual ALA conference.

Re: Inability to access Footnote site. I've used the link from your site as well as from Google: Footnote.com. I still cannot access the site although once I was able to reach the opening page before it "froze".

I cannot duplicate this on my Windows, Macintosh or Linux systems. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Just click on a Footnote.com link anywhere in this newsletter and see if it works for you.
Thank you.

Charlotte, you might try uninstalling Flash and re-installing the latest version. The whole Footnote site is Flash-dependant and it's not rare for a plug-in or its cache (which can be separate from the browser cache) to somehow become corrupted and cause issues like this.

Update on the meeting: it's at 2pm on Saturday. It's a 60-75 minute meet and greet, at "ground zero" for research in Washington DC: the National Archives. For more information, please follow the original contact instructions.
And to respond to a previous question - as Dick said, we don't routinely send unsolicited commercial emails to our subscribers. Instead, we post to our own blog, at http://blog.footnote.com/ (or you can find a link to it at the bottom left of the footnote site).
And in case it isn't already clear, I work at Footnote. Well, at least they employ me.
