World Vital Records, Inc. has announced the inclusion of a large portion of the U.S. census 1790-1920 in its collection. This collection includes more than 800,000 browseable images and 32 million names from various counties from all the United States, except Alaska. It also includes the 1930 census for Puerto Rico.
Because of the size of the 1790-1920 census, the images will be launched throughout this week as follows:
- Monday - 1790-1840
- Tuesday - 1850-1870
- Wednesday - 1880-1910
- Thursday - 1920
- Friday - 1930 (Puerto Rico only)
It is important to note that while the images are currently browsable, they are not yet indexed, with the exception of the 1790 Census. The new offering is a "work in progress" that is in its early stages of implementation. World Vital Records hopes to develop a future index to facilitate easier, faster searches. Meanwhile, the images are up and available free to access for the next 10 days.
