The West Valley Genealogical Society near Phoenix, Arizona has "won" a local contest, although not one they are bragging about. The society has been selected as the winner of the FastSigns' 2007 Ugliest Sign Contest.
The West Valley Genealogical Society owns and operates one of the largest genealogy libraries in Arizona, staffed entirely by volunteers. According to Dorothy Sprague, president of the society, "Many of our customers have had a hard time locating us because of our poor signage."
"Winning" this contest isn't all bad, however. They won a new sign. FastSigns will design and produce a brand new sign valued at $5,000 for the Genealogical Society, Deborah Campbell, owner of FastSigns on Bell Road, announced. I suspect the new sign will be much nicer looking that the old one.
I hope that we see the new one.

Do you know the address of the West Valley Genealogical Society building? Also I have heard there is a Latter Day Saints Genealogy Building in Tempe that is like Salt Lake City. Anyone have information on that? Thank!

West Valley Genealogical Society building is at:
12222 N 111th Ave, Youngtown, AZ 623-933-4945
There is a Latter Day Saints Library in Mesa, AZ. It is useful but it does not compare to the Library in Salt Lake City. As with other church sites you can have materials sent from SLC.

I have visited the Mesa, Az library several times while visiting my son. The people are very helpful and there's a lot of material. I sit at the microfilm reader and when I find something I want copied, I just push the button. It is printed out at a nearby area and brought to me. Visit it if you have a chance!

Thanks for all the positive comments about the Society winning the Ugly sign contest. Our Long Range Planning Director, Vera Elgin is responsible for our entry.
Anytime you are in the area, please stop and visit us. We look small, but really contain allot of wonderful information for research and have a wonderful group of volunteers ready to help. I have included the website for those that want to browse. I have been a member for 2 years and just love the knowledge I can gain from this group. We are all looking forward to the new sign! Thanks Vicki
