February is Black History Month in the United States. To increase awareness of Black history and genealogy, American Legacy magazine is sponsoring am 18-wheeler "road show" that will tour 12 U.S. cities throughout the month.
The "Know Your History" tour, sponsored by Greater Philadelphia Tourism, Wachovia Bank and PBS will include: an exhibit of the magazine's covers highlighting the depth and magnitude of African-American history and culture; an exhibit of historical photographs of famous African-American women such as Coretta Scott King, Betty Shabazz, Aretha Franklin, and Maya Angelou by the renowned photographer Leroy Henderson; and, a Genealogy Kiosk where visitors can log onto www.ancestry.com and search for their ancestors by using the 1930 census.
Cities to be visited include: Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta, Charlotte, Norfolk, Richmond, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, Harlem, Mt. Vernon (New York), and New York City.
