Newspaper Abstracts from the Villages of Columbiana and East Lewistown, Ohio

Genealogists looking for information from the Columbiana area have a new resource tool. Compiled by Columbiana resident DeWayne McCarty, “Newspaper Abstracts From the Villages of Columbiana and East Lewistown, Ohio” was published by Clossen Press in January.

Covering the years from 1870 through 1902, the book includes articles about births, deaths and marriages printed in the major newspapers in the area in the late 1800s, including “The Independent Register” from 1870 to 1897, “The Columbiana Independent” from 1898 to 1902, “Columbiana True Press” from 1877 to 1878 and “New Moon” out of East Lewistown from 1891.

The book contains 658 pages, including 108 pages of a full name index. Listed by the date published, the articles provide a chronological order of major life events for family histories, McCarty said.

Each book costs $46 plus a $4.50 shipping and handling charge. You can read more at http://www.salemnews.net/news/articles.asp?articleID=10582.
