Facebook is a very popular social networking website with more than 64 million active users worldwide. The site is free for everyone as it generates revenue from advertising. Users create profiles that often contain photos and lists of personal interests, exchange private or public messages, and join groups of friends. Now OneGreatFamily.com has created Relatively Me™, a genealogy application for use with Facebook.
Here is the announcement:
OneGreatFamily is excited to introduce you to Relatively Me™, a free application developed to use with Facebook. Relatively Me takes advantage of the engaging social networking elements of Facebook like news feed, friends and photos while using the OneGreatFamily backend to create a fun and interesting family history experience.
With Relatively Me, you enter the information you already know about your family tree in a simple, easy family tree within Facebook. Relatively Me passes all the information over to OneGreatFamily as you enter it, which in turn compares your data to over 170,000,000 people within over one hundred thousand family trees already submitted to OneGreatFamily. Matched individuals are automatically merged, extending your family tree with information from the other tree. By piggybacking on the work of genealogy enthusiasts, a few entered names can quickly turn into hundreds or even thousands.
Relatively Me also provides Cool Information About Your Tree, a widget-based page that includes a wide variety of interesting and informative tools that give you insights to your family tree.
Relatively Me is a free application. The user must sign up for a free Facebook account and then add the Relatively Me application.
To join Facebook and add Relatively Me, you can visit: http://www.relativelyme.com.
How is this protected from fraud? Great idea but open to all kinds of problems in this age of scams.

Good idea. But you forgot to mention that RELATIVELY ME is not FREE???

Relatively Me is free. You can create a family tree by either entering data into the Relatively Me application or by launching Genealogy Browser™, a free powerful pc-based family tree program. You can also upload a GEDCOM file. Once you have entered data, you can use the Cool Information About Your Tree tab to look at your family tree in new and unusual ways. And you can always use the power of Genealogy Browser to explore your family tree. Many genealogists love the powerful ability to surf their tree.
All of that can be done to your heart's content for free.
We do charge if our automated match and merge system adds data to your tree. You have to subscribe to OneGreatFamily to see those additions. But many genealogists are very content with the free services, and just ignore the offers to subscribe. I would argue that no one on the web offers more unique capability today for free.
