The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding ("TNG") version 7.0 is Now Available
The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding is a genealogy program that runs on a web server. Indeed, TNG functions in much the same manner as any other genealogy program: it has most all the features one expects in any modern genealogy program, including a powerful database, easy methods of adding new data, relationship charts, timelines, and more. The major difference is that TNG is installed on a Windows, UNIX, Apple or Linux web server. It also is multi-user: multiple people can access the database and even add new data simultaneously.
I wrote a review of TNG in this newsletter several years ago. That review is still available at http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2004/06/the_next_genera.html. You can also listen to an audio interview of TNG software developer Darrin Lythgoe at http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2006/11/tng_with_darrin.html. Now Darrin has updated the program significantly.
Now author Darrin Lythgoe has made more than 100 changes to the program. Something of them are minor "tweaks" although others are rather significant. A full list of changes may be found at http://lythgoes.net/genealogy/recentchanges.php.
Users of version 5 or version 6 may upgrade for $12.99. The standard price of the Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding is $29.99. More information may be found at http://lythgoes.net/genealogy/software.php.
I visited Darrin Lythgoe's site and over a dozen of the sites he lists as using TNG and they seem as different as the people designing those web sites. It is very flexible and allows for individual creativity.
The program installs on a web server and contains hundreds of PHP scripts which access your data in a MySQL database. For $30 US, you get good support and free minor upgrades as they occur.
This one is a winner and at a bargain price, too.
Happy Dae.

There is an open source alternative, that cost nothing and in my opinion is better than TNG.
It is called phpGedView and can be found here:

It is developed and maintained by many developers (not just a few as the case in TNG) and new features and improvements are constantly added.
