I recently had a chance to talk with Ron Arons, the author of a new book entitled, "The Jews of Sing Sing." This turned out to be a fascinating interview for me as Ron described the research involved in writing this book.
Ron describes his own genealogy research, having discovered a family secret that his mother never told him: Ron's great-grandfather spent time at Sing Sing for the crime of... (Are you ready for this?) bigamy. Ron scoured FBI files, police records, prison records, and much, much more. After finding the truth about his own ancestor, Ron started doing the same for more men – many more men. He describes his work in some detail in this interview.
