FGS Announces Rebates for Societies and Individuals
The following announcement was written by the Federation of Genealogical Societies:
The Federation of Genealogical Societies has announced a new rebate program for individual registrants and the member societies to which they belong.
Any member society (including new members) with five or more full-price, full-conference registrants will earn a rebate, which the society may either keep or refund to its members. Societies with five to nine registrants will receive $30 for each registration; with ten to fifteen, $40; with fifteen to twenty, $50; with more than twenty, $50 plus $10 for each banquet ticket purchased by the group. New registrants can use the online rebate form; those already registered need only fill out a form by the end of the conference.
Volunteers can also earn a rebate, if they commit at least eight volunteer hours during the course of the conference. Those who volunteer for eight hours will receive a 25% rebate of their registration fee; twelve hours, 50%; sixteen hours, 100%. In addition, societies whose members collectively perform 100 hours of volunteer service during the week of the conference will receive 1% of the profit from the conference. This offer is limited to the first ten societies who respond with a commitment of 100 volunteer hours. No special skills or knowledge are required to volunteer.
This year's Federation of Genealogical Societies annual conference is being held from September 3 through 6 in Philadelphia, PA, under the auspices of the lead local sponsor, The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. Themed “Footprints of Famiy History,” the conference will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, with accommodations at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. All rebates described above will be sent after the end of the conference.

Unfortunately, the FGS web site states: "Only full-price ($225) registrations processed since the beginning of July count toward the rebate." Many of us registered long before the July cut-off as we are frequent attendees at national conferences, thus our registrations do not count for the rebate.
Perhaps the registration numbers are very low, and they are attempting to boost attendance.
