Video Interview: JoAnne Rockower of Geni.com
At this year's Who Do You Think You Are?" LIVE! conferenced in London, I had a chance talk with JoAnne Rockower, Director of Community Outreach for Geni.com, a rapidly-growing genealogy social networking site.
JoAnne talked about the purpose of Geni.com and described the manner in which it works. She described the privacy features, the ease of use, and the new features that have been added in recent months. Geni.com features GEDCOM import and export, family calendars, personal timelines, family timelines, family newsfeeds, birthday reminders, and a lot more. Geni.com excels at keeping families connected.
Roots Television had a camera crew at the conference in London and kindly videotaped our conversation. Is there a transcript for those of us with slow Internet connections who can't watch videos? That would be great! Thanks.

You can watch the videos even on a slow Internet connection. First of all, start the video in the normal manner. As soon as it gets started, click on PAUSE. You will note that the video itself continues to download (slowly) in the background even though nothing changes on your screen. The video file is being downloaded and stored on your hard drive.
Eventually, the entire video file will be downloaded, even on the slowest connection, and stored on your hard drive. Now click PLAY.
The entire video will then be displayed on your screen at normal speed as it is reading the file from your hard drive, not from the Internet connection.

The video started out with a lot of ads. So I cancelled. Is there a way to see the interesting things without all of the ads?

No. The ads are what pays the bills at Roots Television, just like commercial television stations. Without those ads, Roots Television would soon be out of business (just like commercial television stations).
