The weekly Plus Edition of this newsletter was scheduled to be sent last night. However, it has not yet been sent and I am not sure when it will go.
I was scheduled to fly from Los Angeles to Providence, Rhode Island yesterday. That involved a plane change in Newark, New Jersey. However, the Newark airport was busy when I arrived. I boarded the plane to Providence a bit late. We then taxied out and sat on the ramp for more than an hour. Eventually, the flight was canceled because of fog in Providence. The Providence airport was closed to all flights.
I'll skip all the details that followed, other than to say I stumbled into an airport hotel around 1:30 AM, without luggage.
Today, I am back at the airport and am hoping to catch a flight to Providence. However, the flights are all overbooked as my fellow passengers from last night's flight are all looking for seats on today's limited number of flights. I'm not sure when I will arrive home and will put the weekly edition together. I also have no idea where my luggage is. I'll let you guess where my cell phone charger is. That's right: in my checked luggage.
Please do not be surprised if the Plus Edition mailing is late arriving in your inbox.
I appreciate your patience.
(This message was sent from the Newark airport, using a Verizon wireless "air card.")
My goodness, Dick, a bad travel day indeed. Hope you arrive at your destination with no more problems and get a good rest after that. Looking forward to reading the 'Plus' newsletter whenever it comes.

Wouldn't it be quicker to rent a car and drive to Rhode Island (or take a train)?

Quicker? Probably. But, after traveling all day across the country, I wasn't very interested in renting a car at 11:30 PM and driving another four hours to get home. I suspect I would have fallen asleep at the wheel before reaching home.
The train was a possibility although I would need to travel to Penn Station in New York City, probably arriving around 1:00 AM or so, then trying to grab a train from there, another four hour trip. (I have taken the train before.) I never bothered to see what the train schedule was for the middle of the night trains.
Instead, I elected to get some sleep in an airport hotel.
