Free Access to Everton's Genealogical Helper Online Edition
The following announcement was written by Everton's Genealogical Helper:
Everton Online Edition FREE Access
Since the initial launch of the Genealogical Helper as an Online Edition, it has been determined that hosting the magazines on World Vital Records' servers was causing too much confusion and difficulty of access for subscribers. To alleviate the confusion, Everton's have undertaken the hosting themselves, with a much simpler user interface.
Everton apologizes for any inconvenience that genealogists experienced with the initial launch of the Online Edition, and are confident that your experience will now be a pleasant and rewarding one. Everton is offering access to the two Online Edition issues now available at the site: Jul-Aug 2008 and Sept-Oct 2008 absolutely FREE until October 17. Simply go to: www.everton.com. ALSO - until October 27 the $12 annual subscription fee to the Online Edition of the Genealogical Helper will be reduced to $10.00, and the $29.00 annual subscription fee for the hard copy edition of the magazine (includes access to the Online Edition) will be reduced to $25.00.
The Genealogical Helper is widely recognized as having no equal in terms of amount of total content, educational and research information, and lists of organizations, events, and repositories. The complete magazine is online, and all websites listed in either the content or advertisements are hot-linked.
What happens to those of us who purchased a subscription through World Vital Records?

Well I'm hoping that maybe our subscription gets extended, or at the very least the distribution model gets revved up a bit - I excitedly tried to subscribe the day I read about the online edition here back in June, and it failed, so I called and subscribed over the phone.
At that time I asked how I'd know when each new edition was available and was told that there was no plan to actually tell subscribers when a new edition was posted, and I'd just need to check the website. My suggestion of at least eMailing the subscribers to remind us to visit the website to get the new edition when it was posted wasn't implemented apparently.
Of course I promptly forgot about it, and it wasn't until yesterday I learned that the second online edition was now available - to everybody who is quick enough.
And also of course I really should be addressing these concerns to Evertons :-)
Cheers
Roger

Does this include the archives?

I just tried to subscribe for one year and was unable to do so. Perhaps the notice has caused issues with the web site. I hadv/had a subscription with World Vital Records and am curious about how my subscription will be handled. If the previous person who responded had to wait since June, it might be come time for me to obtain what I would like to order and get an extension on World Vital Records.

I also tried previously to subscribe to the Online version of the Genealogical Helper but nothing came of it. Seems to me they should make it easier to subscribe if it's subs they are looking for.

Is there anyway to get a copy of the two issues that were free until October 17th? I downloaded them to my pc & thought I saved them, and then my pc did the wonderful automatic reboot with Windows updates overnight, and I lost them. I wanted to take a look at the full versions of the issues before I decided for sure if it would be a good investment for my budget, which is limited at best. And I cannot locate them on my computer anywhere even in my temp files.
