At the suggestion of a member, I have now added a new category to the EOGN Discussion Forum: "Marketplace." The new Marketplace section is divided into two message boards:
For Sale or Trade by Forum Members - FREE Ads
Vendors' Ads - FREE Ads
In short, this is a place for free ads for items you are selling or for those "wanted to buy" ads for things that you are looking for. All ad space is available free of charge.
The "For Sale or Trade by Forum Members" section is restricted to messages posted by private individuals who wish to sell individual items or to make a single purchase. The "Vendors' Ads" section is for genealogy-related or history-related vendors. (This includes "sole proprietor" vendors: one person operations. If you sell goods or services on a repetitive basis, you qualify as a vendor.)
All ads must be for genealogy-related or history-related goods or services. Such items might include books, journals, CD-ROM disks, etc. All vendors are responsible for making sure that their products and services comply with all copyright laws and all other applicable legal requirements. Off-topic ads will be removed.
Vendors may place one ad per month. Private individuals may place one ad per item per month with a maximum of ten items per month. Any ads posted more often than once a month will be deleted.
All ads are free of charge.
I will add a special invitation for vendors: It makes no difference if you are a big, commercial vendor with hundreds of employees or a one-person vendor selling reprints of old books or even a non-profit genealogy society selling transcriptions of tax lists recorded in your area many years ago: you are all invited to post one message per month in the "Vendors' Ads" section.
If you have a very short catalog (a page or two), you might post the entire catalog there. If your list of goods and services is longer, you'll do better to simply write an ad describing the types of services you provide and then providing a link to your own web site.
You can advertise books, supplies, software, CD-ROM disks, or anything else that is specific to genealogy or history. You can advertise your web site as well.
I will especially invite authors and publishers to advertise all new genealogy and history books in the "Vendors' Ads" section, up to a maximum of one such advertisement per month.
