The Ohio Genealogical Society dreamed it, planned it and thanks to donors a new 18,000 square-foot library will be built on Ohio 97 Bellville.
A groundbreaking ceremony was Friday on an eight-acre site of land, donated to the society by James and Marjorie Gorman for the new Samuel D. Islay Library of the Genealogical Society.
Samuel Islay of New York City, was the lead donor for the $1.7 million project. His contribution allows the society to continue to preserve the history of Ohio's families.
It is nice to hear of a society that is expanded and undertaking major improvements to its services. In this economy, we hear too much about societies and corporations that are downsizing and reducing services. My hat is off to the Ohio Genealogical Society for its expansion.
