Northumberland County, Pennsylvania wants to buy Sunbury's city hall and convert the building into a records and genealogy research center, Commissioner Frank Sawicki confirmed Thursday.
Mayor Jesse C. Woodring and Councilman John K. Shipman said no offer has been made and no sale is definite.
Located next to the county courthouse on Market Street, city hall is an attractive location for the commissioners, who want to move real estate, marriage and other county records dating to 1772 out of the courthouse basement and into an environmentally controlled area easily accessible to the public.
