Genealogies recorded in family Bibles have been compiled into a resource guide under the care of the Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The result is "Genealogy Bible Treasurers," subtitled "A Digital Photo Preservation and Index of Pre-Depression Era Bible Records."
Jackson-Madison County chapter regent Jackie Utley said response was impressive. "We're really proud that our chapter had the second highest number of Bibles photographed in the state - 74. I think this book will be a genealogical treasure and will help to preserve all the family information in these fragile heirloom Bibles."
The Bible Index has 450,000 names, events and dates from 1,228 Bibles from Tennessee.
"The best part of all this is that the CD contains every image from every Bible photographed, so if you question the transcription of a name or date, you can look at the Bible page yourself and make your own decision about the spelling or the numerals," Utley stated.

This sounds like a resource I'd love to check out. While I don't have any Tennessee ancestors myself, the family of my favorite great-uncle (by marriage) was from Tennessee, and I've been researching his genealogy for him and his brother's only child for years. This resource may provide some new information into that family for me, which would be great.
