Planning a trip to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City? If you haven't been there for a while, you might not be aware that the area near the Family History Library is under construction.
City Creek Center is becoming a sustainably designed, walkable urban community of residences, offices and retail stores that will rise over the next four years on approximately 20 acres across three blocks near the Family History Library. Upon project completion in 2012, the city will be one of few in the nation with a vibrant, mixed-use development at its core.
The new development is near the Family History Library but not adjacent to it. The development is across the street from Temple Square and also across the street from the Salt Palace Convention Center. That is, the corner of the new development is a 45-degree angle across the street from the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel.
The developers have created a City Creek Conceptual Tour that shows what the new development will look like once completed. You might want to watch this virtual reality tour video at http://www.downtownrising.com/city_creek/.
My thanks to Lee Drew for telling me about the virtual tour.
A phenomenal tour! Thank you for sharing. I saw Nordstroms and Macys but missed ZCMI. I noticed extensive use of running, aerable water in this "desert which blossoms as a rose." Excellent. Well-designed and practical. I want to move there!
