A couple of people have asked so I thought I would post the answer here for all to see:
A few weeks ago, I changed the format of the Plus Edition newsletters sent every week by e-mail. The new format is much shorter, providing the title and the first few sentences of each article. You can read the articles online individually or, to read the entire weekly newsletter at once, you may go to http://www.eogn.com/wp/thisweek.htm. The entire weekly newsletter is available online in both HTML and PDF formats.
The reasons for the changes were detailed in an article I wrote on May 6 entitled "Changes Required in the Plus Edition E-mail Newsletter" and still available at http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2009/05/changes-required-in-the-plus-edition-email-newsletter.html.
The changes have produced some benefits. One benefit is that anyone who wants to save each weekly newsletter on their computer's hard drive can now do so easily in a format that works even better than before. Prior to the change, the only practical method of saving the newsletter was to save the e-mail version. Unfortunately, the old format was published in HTML and not all the hyperlinks or pictures or other graphics would be saved. The result varied a bit from one e-mail program to another. Some people did find all the hyperlinks and graphics were saved while people who used different e-mail programs found those items were stripped out.
Now the new online version is available in both HTML and in PDF versions. The PDF version is a much better format for saving to your hard drive as PDF is a standard designed for cross-platform compatibility.
To save the weekly Plus Edition newsletter to your hard drive:
- Go to the online Plus Edition at http://www.eogn.com/wp/ and log in with your user name and password
- Click on "Current e-mail edition" which will take you to the HTML version of the complete weekly newsletter. You can click on SAVE in your web browser to save the HTML version to your hard drive in a manner similar to saving the old e-mail messages. HOWEVER...
- Click on "Would you prefer a PDF version of this newsletter? If so, go to ..." You will then see the PDF version of the newsletter.
- Click on "SAVE AS..." That saves the PDF version to your hard drive.
The current Plus Edition newsletter and the two previous weeks' Plus Edition newsletters are available all the time in both HTML and PDF formats at http://www.eogn.com or click on the "Read The Plus Edition" link in the white boxes near the top of this page.
