Scots from all over the world joined their native cousins for the opening day of Strathclyde University's International Genealogy Festival. The launch was attended by ex-pats from Australia, America, Canada and South Africa and a host of locals, all eager to learn more about their family roots.
Dr Bruce Durie, festival organiser and course director of genealogical studies at the university, explained that the event is a celebration of Scottish history and culture. He said: "The response has been excellent, just today a man who has been trying to track down his great, great granny went to one of our stalls and to his amazement he saw a picture of her on the front page of a book. We expect the next few days to be even more exciting."
