An occupied crypt at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park in Westwood, California has been sold for $4.6 million. The value was probably enhanced by who is buried next door: Marilyn Monroe.
Elsie Poncher, whose husband Richard Poncher is buried in the crypt, sold it online to pay off the mortgage on her Beverly Hills home.
Richard Poncher, a businessman, who owned several companies, died 23 years ago aged 81. According to Elsie, he bought the crypt from New York Yankee great Joe DiMaggio when DiMaggio was in the middle of his divorce from the blond sex symbol in 1954.
Other notables buried at the same cemetery include Donna Reed, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, Carroll O'Connor, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Don Knotts, Eddie Albert, Peggy Lee, Mel Torme, George C. Scott, Burt Lancaster, Eve Arden, Carl Wilson, Eva Gabor and Truman Capote.
