Dick, we all appreciate your keeping us up to date with the latest genealogy news! (And yes, we appreciate your prices too.)

Like many other reports purported to be "professional" (in most professions), this would be laughable except that some supposedly smart people/entities actually do order this kind of over-priced and over-hyped trash. First, it is never complete (anyone with a little experience in the pertinent field can review the contents and see that many things are not included. For example, in this case, one quicklly sees that many of the more popular programs and services do not seem to be addressed (i.e., FootNote.com, TMG, Reunion, etc.). On the other hand, I do note some items that do not seem familiar (possibly new, possibly not related to an area of interest to me).

In any case, like Dick, I do not plan to waste my money. Also, I would not recommend it to anyone else. It sounds very much to me (on a "higher" level ) like the false "geneology" [sic] books that were proliferating a few years ago.

Genealogy publishing has been discovered by the mainstream. The mainstream wants to make money. They will try whatever they can think of to accomplish this. The current example is but one of a list stretching back over time of similar efforts accruing to a newly-discovered "hot" field of endeavor. As a former reference librarian, I received many requests for our university library to purchase the latest (well-advertised) resource in what was then called Afro-American studies (to mention but one subject at the time in its ascendancy). And similarly, many of them were also junk.

Now, more than ever, caveat emptor!

Gene Kuechmann

Most of the information I need on the topics they list, as well as on many topics they don't list, is available on the Internet free or at low cost. Then I can spend that $950 going to local, regional, and national conferences, where I can get up-to-date information from real genealogists with some one-on-one help at no extra cost. Please keep your prices low and keep reminding us that a scam is a scam is a scam ...
