Tamie Dehler has written an article in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star that gives details. She lists addresses for each state. Some states have the index to pensions online, although not all of them have such online resources. Tamie gives both online and offline addresses at http://www.tribstar.com/cnhi/tribstar/history/local_story_304132138.html.
Part one of her article is available online now with part two promised for next week.
I wish to add the correct address for the Mississippi Department of Archives and history---

I would like to point out that at least SOME Confederate veterans got pensions from the state to which they moved after the war, rather than the state in whose forces they served.
My great-grandfather served as a Private in the 6th Alabama Infantry, but got a pension from Texas. His pension file includes affidavits from his Sergeant and his Lieutenant, sworn before a judge in Alabama and sent to Texas.

This article was written by an obvious Yankee or someone who has never done Confederate research. To find a Confederate pension you contact the state archives where the soldier lived after the war. The South lost, so each state was responsible for the soliders living in that state.
Many soldiers and their families moved after the war, so their pension came from the state they lived in after the war not the state they served from.
Dick, you obviously didn't read this article or you're a yankee yourself. Bad information here.

---> Dick, you obviously didn't read this article or you're a yankee yourself.
Except that I didn't write the article. If I write something wrong, I'll take responsibility for it. But if I didn't write it, I don't think I should be blamed.
As stated above, "Tamie Dehler has written an article in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star that gives details."
I'd suggest you provide feedback to Tamie Dehler.

It should also be pointed out that the Dallas Public Library has all the Confederate pension applications from every state that gave pensions to Confederate soldiers.

And if we think back to the American Revolution, we're ALL Yankees, arent' we? Many thanks to Nan and Jerry who added information.

Yes. The article is in error when it states a veteran collected as CSA pension from the state in which he served. One great-great-uncle served from Virginia, moved to St. Louis, Missouri and later still to Tennessee from which state he collected his pension. Later still, in old age, he moved to Kansas City live with his son. Tennessee was going to revoke his pension unless he moved back to Tennessee. As this exchange was going on, he died in Kansas City where he is buried. Still, the article is a good topic even it needs some cleaning up. I was glad to read about the Dallas Public Library having the whole set of CSA pension records. Nice to know for future reference! That alone will save countless hours of research time.

In Alabama, as a veteran moved from county to county, he had to re-apply for his pension in that county. This provides good information for where the veteran was living during a particular time period.

Does anyone know if the Dallas Public Library will copy a veterans pension application and send it to me in Florida? Is it possible to obtain microfilm on library loan from the Dallas Public Library? Does anyone have a phone number to the correct department at the Dallas Public Library, so that I may ask these quesitons. I am in the middle of doing research for my many family ancestors who were in the Confederate Army, and most were in Alabama and Louisiana.
