It seems that former Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, John Prescott, has some skeletons in the family closet, skeletons he didn't know about until discovered by a genealogist who was researching background material for the filming a show for BBC Wales.
The politician was told his great-great-grandmother had borne four children by her own father, a miner in North Wales.
Prescott told Wales on Sunday the news had left him reeling. “We never knew about it. We’re surprised and amazed,” the Rhyl-born Labour MP said as he choked back tears. Genealogist Gillian Jones told Prescott that such incest was a relatively common practice among poverty-stricken miners’ families at the time.
When Prescott's great-great-grandmother later married her next door neighbour, she didn’t invite her father to the wedding.
